Infertility Evaluation & Treatment

When a couple is facing infertility it can be devastating…  Infertility can develop as a result of male or female issues.  We offer our patients a comprehensive evaluation and advanced treatment options in a nurturing environment.

Women’s Testing/Evaluation:

As part of the woman’s evaluation, our physicians review her medical history, previous treatments and examinations, hormonal assessments, and other fertility testing. A hysterosonogram (HSN) or a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) may be recommended to investigate the possibility of uterine and fallopian tube abnormalities (actual testing not done in-office for HSN or HSG).  Testing may also include ovarian reserve testing and pelvic ultrasound.

Testing:

  • Genetic testing
  • Hormone evaluations
  • Ovarian reserve testing
  • Hysterosalpingograms (HSG) – not done in-office
  • Hystersonograms (HSN) – not done in-office
  • Pelvic ultrasound
  • Endometrial biopsies

Men’s Testing/Evaluation:

As part of the man’s evaluation, a complete semen analysis will confirm the number, motility, morphology, and other sperm parameters. Genetic testing may be recommended in some cases.  When necessary we can order this test for you.  Please note this procedure is not done in-house.

Treatment Options:

After your diagnostic and evaluation studies are completed, our physicians will work closely with you to recommend and initiate a clinical treatment plan, personalized for your specific needs.

Ovulation Induction & Superovulation:

For women who do not ovulate on their own, medications are prescribed to induce ovulation so that conception can occur with either timed intercourse.

To help increase opportunities for conception for patients who do ovulate on their own, the use of oral medications may be recommended to stimulate the ovaries to produce and release multiple mature eggs rather than the customary one monthly egg. This is a common treatment for women with unexplained infertility.

Minimally Invasive Surgical Options:

Surgical procedures may be performed as a treatment for infertility. This may reduce or eliminate the need for assisted reproductive technologies (ART). Our physicians have years of experience in reproductive surgical techniques to treat pelvic adhesions, endometriosis, fibroids, and uterine anomalies. Hysteroscopy, laparoscopy and other minimally invasive forms of surgery are performed at Bon Secours Maryview.  These surgical procedures can often correct problems that may cause infertility resulting in improved chances for conception.

Multiple Miscarriages:

For women who endure multiple miscarriages we work closely with them upon pregnancy.  Once she conceives we will recommend a baby aspirin and progesterone suppositories.
