Help us Support the H.E.R Shelter!

by Monarch Women's Wellness on November 6, 2014

A local cause that is very close to our hearts here at Monarch Women’s Wellness is the H.E.R Shelter (Help & Emergency Response, Inc.), a domestic violence shelter serving our neighbors in Portsmouth, Western Branch, and North Suffolk.

The H.E.R Shelter not only provides shelter and support for up to 30 days for 42 women and children at once, but they also provide children’s programs, court advocacy, and even aftercare for the women once they leave the shelter. Their goal is not only to comfort and take care of the families while they are at the shelter, but to educate and train them for when they leave. So that the violent cycle can end, and these women can be empowered and ready to take care of their families on their own two feet.

We are thrilled to participate again in the SMART Women’s Luncheon this month to help raise money for the H.E.R Shelter. Both of our physicians love being a part of this event and supporting these women at the H.E.R.  Dr. Rachel Lee, will be speaking at the luncheon on women’s health on November 20th. Dr. Rebecca Thibodeau Khan gave a touching speech at the last SMART Women’s Luncheon back in May. We would like to invite you to join us for this amazing event. It will be November 20th at The Portsmouth Women’s Club.   Click here to register for the luncheon.

Another way you can support the shelter is by ordering from their in-house bakery, known as Sweet Haven.   As shared on their website, “All products are prepared through a workforce development program for survivors of Domestic Violence and Homelessness who are starting a new life. Trainees learn kitchen management, food handling and job skills that will help them gain experience and employment. Each purchase made goes back to the work and programs of H.E.R. Safe Place. Make an order today for our delicious “life changing” cupcakes! You get the goods and our clients learn to sustain themselves and their families. The “sweet life” can be had by all.”
